Growing Group
A friendly, hands-on group for Friends members who enjoy propagating interesting plants and supporting the Botanic Gardens through nursery work and plant sales.
What the group does:
- Propagates plant material collected from the Adelaide, Mt Lofty and Wittunga Botanic Gardens with a focus on species not commonly stocked in commercial nurseries
- Grows and prepares plants for monthly public sales at Mt Lofty raising funds for the Friends
- Works at a small nursery adjoining the main nursery at Mt. Lofty Botanic Garden with shed, glasshouse, shade house and benches.
- Assists in the main nursery with potting on and preparing plants for the Botanic Gardens
When and where:
Meets at the Mt Lofty nursery; plant sales are held 4th Sundays monthly from March - November at Mt Lofty Botanic Garden (unless otherwise notified).
Next plant sale:
The fourth Sunday of each month from March to November from 10.30am to 1.30 pm in the Chris Steele-Scott Pavilion, Mt. Lofty BG (from Lower Car park)
Who should join:
Ideal for members who enjoy propagation, potting on, weeding, learning new horticultural skills, or chatting with visitors at plant sales. Noting, at times there can be a waiting list to join the growers.
